The S&P 500 Has Become One Big Bet. It’s Only Getting Bigger.
The index's top ten stocks make up nearly 40% of its total value as of Q226. All have some connection to AI.
Now SpaceX is filing its IPO. Priced at 92x sales. Lost $5 billion last year.
Robert Arnott, chairman of Research Affiliates, called it "ludicrous" in the WSJ this month but said he'd gladly buy SpaceX anyway. His reason? Index funds have to buy it to avoid trailing the benchmark.
It’s becoming a very crowded boat, and moreso with Anthropic and OpenAI IPOs around the corner.
One market operates on different mechanics - Art. It's what the ultra wealthy have used to diversify for decades.
Why?
Alternative market: blue-chip works priced by collectors competing globally for a fixed supply of physical assets
Independence: the postwar contemporary segment has near zero correlation with equity markets since 1995*
Resilience: demand has held across certain recessions, rate cycles, and market crashes
Thanks to the world's premier art investing platform, now anyone can invest in works featuring Banksy, Basquiat, and Picasso.
$1.3 billion has been deployed across 530 artworks. Net annualized returns like 16.5%, 17.6%, and 17.8% on works held longer than a year.

AI Search Visibility: The Rules are Evolving
This week brought a cluster of new and confirmed findings that, taken together, tell a single story: the rules of being found continue to evolve, and most brands are still trying to catch up.
Here's what you need to know before Tuesday morning.
Google Just Made Brand Trust an AI Ranking Signal
On May 27, (yes and the news is just being announced) Google announced "Preferred Sources" a new feature rolling out in AI Overviews and AI Mode that lets users bookmark the websites they trust. When a preferred site is cited in an AI answer, it gets a visible badge. And the data is striking:
STAT: 2x higher click-through rate for Preferred Source links in AI Overviews, Google's own reported figure.
More than 345,000 unique websites have already been selected by users. What's new here isn't just the feature, it's what the feature signals: AI search is beginning to incorporate human trust signals, not just algorithmic authority.
This is a meaningful shift. For years, SEO was about convincing Google's crawlers. Now there's a second layer: convincing actual humans to trust you enough to bookmark you as a preferred source. That requires brand recognition, consistent credibility, and visibility in the right places, which loops back directly to where brands get discovered and mentioned in the first place.

Quick action: If your brand has a strong readership or loyal client base, encourage them to add you as a Preferred Source in Google AI Overviews. It's a small ask with a measurable reward.

The GEO Measurement Gap: Doing It Is Not the Same as Proving It
Here's a stat that should unsettle anyone running a marketing team right now:
STAT: 54% of marketers say they're doing GEO. Only 12% can show results. The gap between doing and proving is enormous.
There's no GA-equivalent for AI search. There's no standard dashboard that shows whether your brand is being mentioned in ChatGPT answers for the queries that matter to your business. So most teams are spending budget on AI visibility with no way to measure return.
This isn't a criticism, it's the current state of the market. The measurement infrastructure simply hasn't caught up to the tactic. But the brands that figure out measurement first will have a durable competitive edge: they'll be able to iterate while everyone else is guessing.
The three things you can measure right now:
Brand mention frequency: How often does your brand appear when you ask each major AI platform a question in your category? Run this weekly and track the trend.
Citation source audit: Which third-party sites are triggering your AI mentions? This tells you where to invest PR and community presence.
AI referral traffic: Set up GA4 filters to capture visits from chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai, and claude.ai. Even small numbers tell you which content LLMs are pulling from.
This is exactly the gap we're solving.
At Monica Systems, we don't believe businesses should invest in AI visibility without knowing whether it's working.
Our AI Visibility Assessment establishes a baseline of how your business appears across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. We identify which questions you're brand is already being recommended for, where your competitors are showing up instead, what sources are influencing those answers, and where your biggest opportunities exist.
From there, every recommendation has one purpose: increase measurable AI visibilit, not just publish more content.
Because if you can't measure it, you can't improve it.
85% of LLM Brand Mentions Come From Pages You Don't Own
AirOps' 2026 State of AI Search report landed a finding that reframes the entire AI visibility conversation: across all major models analyzed, 85% of brand mentions in AI answers originate from third-party pages — not the brand's own website. Brands are 6.5x more likely to be cited through external sources than from their own domain.
STAT: Brand mentions are 3x more correlated with AI visibility than backlinks — Ahrefs study of 75,000 brands (0.664 vs. 0.218 correlation score).
Let that sink in. The entire SEO playbook is built around your own site — your content, your technical optimization, your internal links. But for AI visibility, the game is almost entirely played off your site. In third-party reviews, editorial coverage, industry forums, comparison articles, community discussions, analyst reports.
This is an earned media problem, not a website problem. AI systems learn about brands the same way humans do — through what trusted third parties say about them. A brand mentioned consistently in credible external sources trains the model to recognize it as a known, trustworthy entity worth recommending.

And if you're wondering where to focus that earned media effort, 5W PR just mapped the answer: they analyzed 680 million citations across ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews and found that the top 15 domains absorb 68% of all AI citations. Reddit leads at ~40%, LinkedIn jumped to #5 for professional queries, and Wikipedia is effectively infrastructure. The platforms AI trusts most aren't obscure — but most brands have no deliberate presence on them.
The four channels driving AI brand mentions in 2026:
Community conversations: Reddit, Quora, niche forums. Reddit alone accounts for ~40% of AI citations across all platforms.
Creator and video content: YouTube is #2–3 across most AI platforms. If your brand is being discussed in video content, LLMs are listening.
Third-party reviews: G2, Capterra, Trustpilot. These carry outsized citation weight, especially for B2B brands.
Earned editorial PR: Coverage in trade publications, business press, and respected industry outlets is what gave AI models their initial training data — and continues to drive citation patterns today.
AI doesn't trust what you say about yourself—it trusts what others say about you.

73% of Google Page-One Brands Have Zero AI Mentions
Wellows' GEO Visibility Research delivered what may be the most important single stat in AI marketing right now: 73% of brands that rank on Google's first page have zero mentions in AI-generated responses for the same queries.
STAT: 73% of Google page-one brands are completely invisible in AI answers — Wellows GEO Visibility Research, 2025.
This is not a rounding error. Nearly three-quarters of the brands your prospects would find via Google simply don't exist when those same prospects ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Gemini the same question.
A real example from the research: a law firm ranking #1 on Google for "personal injury lawyer Miami" received zero ChatGPT mentions. Their ten years of SEO investment gave them Google dominance and AI invisibility simultaneously.
The mechanism behind this is important to understand. AI systems retrieve content based on semantic authority, citation patterns, and third-party validation, not keyword rankings or link counts. These are different sports, played on different fields.
The hard truth: your Google ranking no longer protects you. A brand that ranks #7 on Google but has strong earned media presence, community mentions, and third-party citations may be far more visible to AI, and to the growing share of buyers who start their research there.
You can't control every source AI learns from. But you can understand what AI is learning from your website.
That's why we built Bot IQ™, to reveal how AI systems crawl, consume, and understand your content, (are they crawling your most important page?) so you can stop guessing and start improving.
McDonald's Is on Google Maps 96% of the Time. AI Recommends It 0% of the Time.
Not 10%. Not 5%. Zero.
Local Falcon just ran 10,000 US restaurants through both Google Maps and Google AI Overviews — and the results aren't just a restaurant story. They're a preview of what's coming for every local business.
STAT: 74.9% of restaurants are completely invisible in AI recommendations — even those with hundreds of glowing reviews and fully optimized Google Business Profiles.

Here's what else the data showed:
A restaurant with 1,000+ Google reviews is still invisible in AI 70.9% of the time. Review volume, the metric every local business has optimized for years, barely moves the needle.
The top 10% of restaurants capture 74.5% of all AI visibility. Concentration in AI search makes Google's algorithm look egalitarian by comparison.
Independent restaurants appear in AI more than chains — 29% vs. 14%. Being well-known nationally is not the same as being trusted locally by AI.
And the finding that should stop every local business owner cold: Yelp is the #1 source Google AI cites when recommending restaurants. Not Google Maps. Not the restaurant's own website. Yelp.
Read that again. The AI is building its recommendations from Yelp, Reddit, TripAdvisor, and Facebook — not from the same signals that determine your Google Maps ranking. You can have 2,000 Google reviews, a 4.8 star rating, and a fully optimized Business Profile and still be invisible the moment someone asks an AI where to eat.
This is the gap that will define the next decade of local business. Google Maps rewards review volume and proximity. Google AI rewards presence on the platforms it trusts as sources — the review sites, social platforms, and community forums it learned from.
That's not a restaurant problem. It's a visibility strategy problem. And it applies to every business with a local footprint: law firms, healthcare practices, retail, hospitality, professional services. If your customers could theoretically ask an AI to find you, this data is about you.
The businesses winning in AI search aren't just well-rated. They're well-referenced — on the platforms AI uses to form its opinions before anyone types a question.
Reach out with any questions. See you next week!
