The window is closing faster than anyone predicted.

This weekend brought a wave of news that, taken together, tells one story: AI is no longer disrupting search. It is search. And the brands that aren’t visible inside LLMs right now are already behind.

Here’s everything you need to know, and what to do about it.

 THE BIG NUMBER

Google AI Overviews Now Drive a 61% Drop in Organic CTR

Source: Ahrefs, February 2026 — Google AI Overviews Link Visibility Update

Let that land for a second. When a Google AI Overview appears at the top of a search result, that AI-written summary powered by Gemini, 61% of users who would have clicked through to a website don’t. They read the answer. They move on.

And those Overviews are appearing everywhere. As of March 2026, Google AI Overviews show up in over 25% of all searches, up from 13% just a year ago. Education, finance, B2B technology, insurance, sectors that used to be goldmines for organic traffic, are seeing some of the steepest increases in AI Overview coverage.

58.5% of all Google searches now end with zero clicks. Not because users didn’t find what they were looking for, because Google answered it before they got to you.

Meanwhile, Google’s own AI Mode has crossed 75 million daily active users globally. On March 4, Google expanded Canvas — a full document and code workspace built inside AI Mode — to all U.S. users without any opt-in required. Google is not slowing down. They are accelerating.

What This Means for Your Brand

The traditional SEO playbook, rank in the top 3, capture clicks, is not broken. It is obsolete for a growing percentage of queries. Ranking #1 in the blue links below an AI Overview is like having a billboard behind a wall. Technically there, practically invisible.

The new goal is to become the source that the AI Overview cites. To do that, you need to structure your content, your authority signals, and your digital presence so that Gemini reads you, trusts you, and quotes you. That is Generative Engine Optimization. That is the shift.

PLATFORM NEWS

ChatGPT Ads Are Live — And the CPM Will Shock You

OpenAI — Live as of February 2026

OpenAI has officially launched advertising inside ChatGPT. Criteo became the first ad-tech company to formally integrate with the platform. The pricing: approximately $60 CPM, roughly three times the standard Meta CPM rate, with a minimum commitment of $200,000 for the beta program.

This is significant for three reasons.

It confirms that OpenAI sees ChatGPT as a full-stack media channel, not just a productivity tool.

It creates a paid vs. organic split inside AI answers, just like what happened with Google two decades ago.

It signals that the window to establish organic LLM visibility, before the paid layer dominates, is measured in months, not years.

The businesses that invested in LLM visibility 12 months ago are already showing up in ChatGPT answers organically, for free. The ones waiting will soon be competing against $200K media budgets.

For most businesses, buying ChatGPT ads is not a realistic near-term play. But earning organic citations inside ChatGPT’s answers, by building structured authority, publishing credible content, and getting mentioned across the web in ways LLMs (Large Language Models, like ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini) can read, absolutely is. And it’s available to you right now.

Perplexity Goes Enterprise — While Amazon Goes to Court

Perplexity AI — March 2026

Perplexity had a complicated week. On the growth side, they launched Comet Enterprise, an AI-native browser that orchestrates work across 19 frontier AI models simultaneously. It handles research, design, code, deployment, and project management inside a single conversation. This isn’t a search upgrade. It’s a replacement for the browser itself.

Perplexity also remains the second-largest AI search engine by query volume, processing over 30 million daily queries, and is now baked into Samsung Galaxy S26 phones at the OS level, the first non-Google company to receive that kind of access on a Samsung device.

On the legal side: Amazon won a court order this week to halt Perplexity’s AI shopping bots, which had been pulling product data and pricing from Amazon’s platform. This is the first major legal ruling against an AI search engine for scraping behavior and signals that platform owners are starting to fight back against AI systems that monetize their data without permission. Just wait till next year when more agents will take over the internet!

The Perplexity-Amazon ruling is the first shot across the bow. Expect more platforms to follow with legal and technical barriers against AI data extraction in 2026.

GPT-5.3 Instant: OpenAI Sharpens Its Everyday Edge

OpenAI — March 2026

OpenAI quietly released GPT-5.3 Instant this week, a speed-optimized version of GPT-5.3 designed for high-frequency, everyday conversations. The emphasis: smoother, more useful interactions for routine queries the kinds of tasks millions of users run through ChatGPT daily.

The implication is straightforward: the model answering questions about your industry is getting faster and smarter. Which means the bar for being worth citing, being the source an LLM reaches for when it needs a credible, clear answer, is getting higher too. Generic content will be skipped. Authoritative, specific, well-structured content will be quoted.

LLM Visibility: Are You Showing Up in AI Answers?

The question every brand needs to be asking right now

This is the question every business is starting to ask, and most don’t know the answer. When your ideal customer asks an AI search engine to recommend a service like yours, does your name come back? Or does a competitor’s?

The brands winning right now aren’t just the ones with the biggest ad budgets or the highest Google rankings. They’re the ones that have made themselves easy for AI to find, trust, and cite. There is a specific, repeatable process for getting there.

LLM visibility isn’t luck. It’s architecture. The businesses that build it now will be nearly impossible to displace once the space gets crowded.

 FOUNDATIONAL FRAMEWORK

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO): What It Is and Why It’s Urgent

GEO is the practice of making your brand recommendable by AI, not just searchable by algorithms. While SEO gets you indexed, GEO gets you cited. In 2026, those are two very different outcomes.

When an AI answer engine synthesizes a response to a user’s question, it doesn’t just return links. It names sources. It makes recommendations. It speaks in first person on behalf of the internet. The brands inside those answers are earning trust and consideration at the exact moment a buying decision is forming.

Getting there isn’t complicated, but it is systematic. It requires looking at your digital presence through a completely different lens: not “what ranks,” but “what gets trusted and repeated.”

In 2026, being searchable isn’t enough. You need to be recommendable by LLMs. GEO is how you earn that recommendation, before your competitors do.

BEFORE YOU GO

The One Thing to Do This Week

Open any AI search engine. Type in the question your ideal client uses when they’re looking for someone who does what you do. See what comes back. If your name isn’t in the answer — that’s the gap. And that gap has a solution.

The businesses that start now will be embedded in LLM answers before the space gets crowded. The ones waiting for certainty will be paying for ads to appear where they could have been showing up organically.

Until next time, stay visible.
